As VInce says, I am a financially comfortable Boomer only through timing and luck. If I had zigged instead of zagged, I might be living under a bridge with a shopping cart. I am very frugal because I want to leave a legacy to my partner and my siblings. I think there are a lot of Boomers like me. We're not greedy. In fact, we want to give away as much money as possible.

It’s not just leveraged buyouts it’s stock buybacks too .. we need to regulate these things when jobs and companies are being gutted by these practices Toys R Us destroyed by leveraged buyouts Red Lobster destroyed by leveraged buyouts Boeing destroyed by stock buybacks not to mention spinning off its own factories and renaming them “third party suppliers” so it could force unrealistic unsafe cost cuts on their former factories or now “third party suppliers” and instead of spending money on safer more efficient production for bigger profits they spent it on STOCK BUYBACKS .. it’s just bad business the amount of money paid in fines (over $300 million) or lawsuits to families ($2.5 BILLION) it’s literally just bad business I believe in laissez faire capitalism but we’ve more than reached the point where there needs to be guardrails on leveraged buyouts (no more) and stock buybacks (no more) When American jobs and companies are being destroyed by investors that’s a breach of fiduciary duty and needs to stop. It’s more than time for government to enforce existing laws.

For me it all racks up to 400$ per month. Rent and bills spilt 3 ways plus grocery money. Laundry is 10$ a week, coffee(2.60 for 4 days a week) is 21$ plus my phone bill which is 50$ and my youtube premium (youtube for work) all gets put away. Soooo my monthly put away is more or less 500 to be safe with my first pay cheque. Only thing is I'm bad with not spending it.

Once all your money "pots" are full including emergency fund, investment accounts, and retirement accounts, you then will be miles ahead of all your peers when, you then step out into your own apartment or town-home. Also. during this 5-year period when living with others, please try not to buy a new automobile and strive to remain debit free (smile ... smile)

I'm employed, but going to the next job is such a nightmare experience. Employers only make it worse. I've had so many horror stories, going into interviews, not knowing the salary, being lied about the posted salary, they lied or being misled if it was a part or full-time job, the person interviewing me was incapable of holding a conversation, let alone asking me questions (I'm being serious). And yes, the theater of interviewing people when they could care less about hiring anybody because they have already hired someone else, or it's easier to hire someone who already works there or had worked there previously.

It's never okay to treat yourself regardless of your income... The only one getting the treat is the rich owners of corporations who is getting richer
